Forensic Nursing

The term “Forensic Nurse” is a relatively new term used to describe medical professionals trained in techniques of evidence gathering, chain of custody, and evaluating medical charts, autopsy reports, and assisting with patient standard of care issues in hospitals, nursing homes or physician offices.

Our Forensic Nurse, a partner in our company, has been a licensed Registered Nurse for 30 years and a licensed Private Investigator for 10 years. With her resources, Select has investigated suspicious suicides, wrongful death claims, assisted attorneys by evaluating medical records, charts, and autopsy reports. With her familiarity with insurance billing codes and physician practice accounting and billing software, Select quickly solved the financial puzzles that several medical businesses endured.

Select investigates personal injury, wrongful death, and similar civil litigation cases. Select has successfully proven negligence and fortunately discovered assets a defendant had hidden. In other cases, Select has been able to uncover evidence to eliminate or reduce an unreasonable claim.

Medical expertise has played a key role in many of our cases. Select Investigations successfully obtained and evaluated the evidence necessary to prove misappropriation of income in the case of a surgical practice that hired a new neurosurgeon and refused to pay him as detailed in his contract. Our forensic nurse’s familiarity with insurance billing codes, post operative infection rates and general medical practice procedures resulted in his award of more than a million dollars and restored his good reputation.
